Seed Stories: A New Family & Safe Place

By Rajun Cajun

I am a new Beet Seed that will soon join the Beet City Bomber family! I moved to Idaho from Louisiana in 2021 by myself, started skating in 2021, and finally joined rollerderby this year. Being from out of state, it is harder to make friends, which was always hard for me to begin with due to my “aggressive” personality. After meeting these amazing people and seeing them more often, they have made me feel comfortable and like I have another family. It has been a challenge, yet exciting, to push myself to the limit and learn new things.

I would love for the veteran skaters to teach me how they gained their internal confidence! Everyone is their own worst critic, and I get in my head about certain things when I know it is an obstacle I can overcome. With practice, patience, and a mental burst of “shut up Rajun, you are not scared, you are just holding yourself back from greatness”, I believe I will blow my own mind which is the biggest issue I still work on to this day. Outside of the general skills I still need to learn, I feel like this team can help me with my mental block and I can learn faster and work harder!

I appreciate every single person on this team and look for qualities in every one of them to use for myself and work on whether it is skills or how they take on tasks. I have many role models and I am grateful to say that I see them multiple times a week.
