Have you always wanted to try Roller Derby? Become a skater and join the Beet City family! You don't know how to skate? No problem, we can teach you everything you need to know! 

BEET SEED PROGRAM

Newcomers to roller derby are generally known as "Fresh Meat." At BCB, we affectionately refer to our Freshies as Beet Seeds! The Beet Seed program is designed to provide potential skaters the fundamental skills necessary to play roller derby while building strength and endurance. No prior skating experience is required, nor is there a time limit. Skill assessments take place periodically, and you advance as you are able. Don't be afraid, we were all new once, and we get it. Don't let any existing fear stop you from discovering one of the most amazing, empowering experiences you will ever have!

What you'll need: 

  • Quad Roller Skates (as in, NOT inlines/roller blades) 

  • Knee Pads

  • Elbow Pads

  • Wrist Guards

  • Helmet

  • Mouth Guard

  • Water Bottle

  • Breathable, unrestrictive clothing

We do encourage skaters to obtain their own equipment prior to beginning practice, but we do have loaner gear that is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you don't have gear, but wish to purchase your own before beginning, please reach out to us first; we can help you find economical packages designed for beginning skaters. Not only can this save you money, but it will also ensure that the equipment you buy is safe and meant specifically for playing roller derby.

Do you love roller derby but don't wish to skate, yet still want to be part of our community?  Become a volunteer! We rely on volunteers to help us in many aspects of our organization.  As a skater-owned and operated league, we run on a tight budget and rely on the hard work from both our skaters and our volunteers to keep the league rolling.  Doing all of these things AND being competitive athletes can be overwhelming, so we welcome all the help we can get in any amount.  You never know what skills we might need that you might have!
